Let the number of students in the group $=$ $x$
Total pay for the full boat if each student pay $R s 10$ $=$ $10 x$
If $3$ more students are there then total number of students $=$ $x + 3$
Its given if there had been $3$ more students, each would have paid $R s 2$
Total pay for the full boat if there had been $3$ more students $=$ $8 (x + 3)$
As the total pay for the full boat remains same in both cases.
Therefore,
$\begin{array}{rcl} 10 x & = & 8 (x + 3) \\ 10 x & = & 8 x + 24 \\ 10 x - 8 x & = & 24 \\ 2 x & = & 24 \\ x & = & \frac{24}{2} = 12 \end{array}$
Hence, $12$ students were there in the group.
