On a school picnic, a group of students agrees to pay equally for the use of a full boat and pay Rs10 each. If there had been 3 more students in the group, each would have paid Rs2 less. How many students were there in the group?

Let the number of students in the group = x

Total pay for the full boat if each student payRs10 = 10x

If 3 more students are there then total number of students = x+3

Its given if there had been 3 more students, each would have paid Rs2

Total pay for the full boat if there had been 3 more students = 8x+3

As the total pay for the full boat remains same in both cases.

Therefore,

10x=8(x+3)10x=8x+2410x-8x=242x=24x=242=12

Hence, 12 students were there in the group.
