$N a O H + (N H_{4})_{2} S O_{4} \to N H_{3} + N a_{2} S O_{4} + H_{2} O$

The colourless gas with pungent odour evolved from the reaction is Ammonia $N H_{3}$ which on reaction with $C u^{+}$ ions form blue coloured complex of tetraamminecopper (II) ion.

$C u^{2 +} + 4 N H_{3} ⟶ [C u (N H_{3})_{4}]^{2 +}$
