On Akashi’s birthday, her father gifted her two sets of balloons. She was very happy while she was holding them in her hand and dancing around. When she finally let go off them, the first set of balloon flew up to the ceiling of the house while the second set of balloon simply fell onto the floor. Why was such a difference in the behavior of the two sets of balloons observed?
The air filled in the first set of the balloons was less dense than the second set of the balloons.
A lighter gas like helium must have been filled in the first set of balloons whose density is much less than that of air. The weight of air displaced by the inflated balloon, that is the buoyant force, becomes more than the weight of the gas filled balloons and thus the first set of balloons rose up to the ceiling of the house while the other set of the balloon do not.
