Now, the quantity of food eaten which is not available for the next level = $1-\frac{1}{10}=\frac{1\times 10}{1\times 10}-\frac{1\times 1}{10\times 1}=\frac{10}{10}-\frac{1}{10}=\frac{10-1}{10}=\frac{9}{10}$
Hence, $\frac{9}{10}$th of the food eaten is not available for the next level.
