Solution

Copper(ll) nitrate decomposes on heating to form copper oxide, oxygen gas and brown coloured nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas. Latter is an oxide of a non-metal (nitrogen), therefore it combines with water to form an acidic solution whose pH is less than 7.
