Question

On heating crystals of KCl in potassium vapours, the crystals start exhibiting violet colour. Why?

Solution

Space lattice is a regular, indefinitely repeated array of points in three dimensions in which the points lie at the intersections of three sets of parallel equidistant planes.
This happens due to the creation of F-centers, as a result of Chloride anion vacancy created upon heating KCl in excess of K vapors. The hole created by the chloride anion is filled by an electron from K, giving it violet appearance.
