On heating, metals expand.
On heating, metal expands and on cooling metal contracts. It's a way to bring change in any metal. This principle is used to fit metal rims on the wheel of a bullock cart. The rim is made a little smaller than the wheel. This metallic rim is then heated so that it expands and fits easily around the wooden wheel. When the metal cools down, it shrinks and hence fits tightly onto the wooden wheel.
