on passing through water, NH3 dissolves but PH3 does not. why?

Dear Student,

Phosphine is insoluble in water because it is unable to form hydrogen bonds with water whereas ammonia on dissolving in water for hydrogen bonds hence it dissolves. Therefore Ammonia is soluble whereas Phosphine is not.
