Let the M.P be $Rs.100$

Then the S.P at 20% discount.$=Rs.(100-20)=Rs.80$

By selling in this price he makes a profit of $20\%$.

$\therefore C.P.=\frac{100\times S.P.}{100+profit\%}$

$=Rs.\frac{100\times 80}{100+20}=Rs.\frac{100\times 80}{120}=Rs.\frac{200}{3}$.

In the second case, the discount $=10\%$.

Then, the $S.P.=Rs.(100-10)=Rs.90$.

$\therefore$ Profit $=S.P.-C.P.=Rs.(90-\frac{200}{3})=Rs.\frac{70}{3}$

$\therefore$ Profit% $=\frac{Profit}{C.P.}\times 100p.c=\frac{\frac{70}{3}}{\frac{200}{3}}\times 100p.c=\frac{70\times 100}{200}=35\%$
