Solution

  • Stereotypes are characteristics that society instinctively attributes to groups of people to classify them according to age, weight, occupation, skin colour, gender, etc.
  • Gender stereotyping involves associating girls and boys with separate and, at times, opposing sets of characteristics.
  • For example, we are brought up in a society where boys are brave, they don’t cry because only girls cry as they are soft, and gentle.
The stereotype that girls are a burden on their parents affect the life of a daughter in the following ways:
  • They are not properly cared for.
  • They are not encouraged for higher education
  • They are not encouraged to attend/join schools
  • They are married off at an early age.
  • They are not provided with nutritious food
  • They are over-engaged in household work/chores
