Magnetic separation is based on the principle when one of the components of the mixture is iron or a magnetic material.

Iron or magnetic material gets attracted towards a magnet and hence can be separated.

Example: Mixture of iron and sand, can be separated by moving a magnet over them. Iron particles gets attached to the magnet and get separated.
