  1. A thermometer is a device that is used to measure the temperature of any object.
  2. It works on the principle that any matter expands on heating.
  3. As the temperature of the bulb of the thermometer rises, mercury in the thermometer rises upward and hence we get to know the temperature of the object.
  4. Generally to measure the temperature of the human body clinical thermometer is used.
  5. In a clinical thermometer, there is a kink present that prevents the fall in the level of mercury when the thermometer is taken from the mouth.
