Number of cookies in one box =6
Total number of boxes =7
Total number of cookies = total number of boxes ×
number of cookies in one box
=7×6=42 cookies

42 cookies are equally divided among 3 plates.
Total number of cookies =42

Number of plates =3
Number of cookies on each plate = total number of cookies ÷ number of plates
=42÷3
We will use the area model to divide 42. Let’s split 42 into tens and ones as shown below.
42=30+12.



Number of cookies on each plate =42÷3=(30+12)÷3=(30÷3)+(12÷3)
=10+4=14

There will be 14 cookies on each plate.
