Question

One end of massless rope, which passes over a massless and frictionless pulley P is tied to a hook C while the other end is free. Maximum tension that the rope can bear is 360 N with what value of minimum safe acceleration (in ms2) can a monkey of 60 kg move down on the rope

Solution

We have,
If the weight moves downward with acceleration then its apparent weight decreases.
We have,
tension is 360N
The mass of monkey is 60kg
In that condition,
The tension in the string =m(ga)
Here g is acceleration due to gravity.
This should not be exceeded over breaking strength of the rope,
360m(ga)
