One mole of a gas expands by 3L against a constant pressure of 3 atmosphere. Calculate the work done in L atmosphere.

The work done (W) when the gas expands at constant pressure P(=3 atm) from volume V1 to V2 is given by,
W=V2V1P dv

=PV2V1dv

=P(V2V1)=PΔV

Where the negative sign indicates work done by the system.

Here V=3L

W=PV=3×3L atm=9 lit.atm.
