It is given that Rim and Jim are talking facing each other in the morning. Also, Jim's shadow is exactly to the right of Rim. In the morning, the sun will be in the east. So, the shadow will be falling towards west.

The following figure indicates the exact situation. So, Rim is facing south.

If he is facing south, then Jim is facing north.

It is given that he walks 20 yd towards north, takes a left turn and walks 40 yd, and again turns left and walks 20 yd. He walks another 20 yd after turning left. We can represent this on a paper as shown.

He traveled 100 yd but returned to his original path. So, his distance from Jim = 40 – 20 = 20 yd
