Let, the numbers be $x, 7 x$ respectively.

If $14$ is added to the sum of the numbers, the result is $38$

i.e., $x + 7 x + 14 = 38$

$⟹ 8 x + 14 = 38$

$⟹ 8 x = 38 - 14$

$⟹ 8 x = 24$

$∴ x = 24 / 8 = 3$

Hence, the numbers are $3, 21$ respectively.
