ABO system:

  1. In the ABO system, the blood group is determined by observing whether antigen A or antigen B is present on the surface of RBCs.
  2. This system was first reported by Karl Landsteiner.
  3. The blood groups in the ABO system are - A, B, AB, and, O.

Universal donor:

  1. The blood group O have no atingens (A or B) on the surface of RBC but the blood plasma contains antigens A and B.
  2. The people with blood group O are called “universal donors”, because they can donate their blood to the people with any blood group.
