One of the major reasons for fading of the white colour of Taj Mahal is:
Gases like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide combine with rainwater to form acids like sulphuric acid and nitric acid. These acids fall down as acid rain.
pH of acid rain is less than 5.5.
When acid rain falls on monuments made up of marble, they corrode their surface and change the colour. This is one of the major reasons for the fading of the white colour of Taj Mahal.
