Solution

The correct option is D it does not completely burn the waste and it also results in emission of toxic gases

Places like houses, offices, schools, hospitals are the source of many wastes such as food wastes, e-wastes such as discarded batteries, paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc. These wastes are supposed to be discarded in an efficient way so that there would be minimal effect on the environment. One of the most preferred ways of discarding these wastes is burning them in open dumps to reduce their volume and turn them to ash.

This method should not be preferred as these wastes go for incomplete combustion thus leading to air pollution. It does not completely burn the waste and it also results in emission of toxic gases. The method of burning waste is substituted by a new method that is “sanitary landfills”.

In a sanitary landfill, wastes are dumped in a depression in the ground. Garbage is dumped in layers, due to which they undergo compaction. It also gets covered with a layer of dirt every day. This prevents odours and also windblown debris. This method isolates the waste from the rest of the environment and prevents breeding by flies and rats.
