A substance that when dissolved in water produces a solution that can conduct an electric current is called electrolyte. An electrolyte conducts electric current in solution, due to formation of ions. Strong electrolyte are compound/substance (acid, base etc.) which fully dissociates (i.e., breaks down to its constituent ions) in solution and weak electrolyte are the one which partially dissociates in solution. That is, some of the molecule do not dissociate to ions. Organic acids and bases are thus usually weak electrolytes.
