Solution
The correct option is C Lignin
In a biogas plant, the microbes are methanogenic bacteria. They breakdown complex polymers such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats into simpler molecules. They secrete exoenzymes which break the plant and animal cell wall material. Cellulose is degraded by cellulases. Lignin is a complex polysaccharide and so it can't be degraded by biological degradation. It has high content of hemicellulose and has cross linkages. It can be degraded only by some fungi such as actinomycetes or by chemical degradation.
