Organisms of kingdom protista can live in diverse habitats. Most of them live in aquatic habitats like pond, freshwater. e.g paramecium. But some can live in moist soil, on dead organisms and even inside humans (digestive tract of humans) and plants. Amoeba is a common human parasite that cause dysentry. Slime moulds live within the rotting trees in the forest.
On the basis of their nutrition, protists are divided into three categories:
1. Protozoans: Protists that are like animals and shows heterotrophic mode of nutrition (ingestion of food). e.g. amoeba, trypanosoma etc.
2. Alga: Protists which are like plants and shows autotrophic mode of nutrition (photosynthesis). e.g. sargassum, spirogyra.
3. Fungal like protists: They show absorption as their mode of nutrition. e.g. slime moulds.
