Organisms having heterotrophic nutrition lack chlorophyll.
Heterotrophs are organism which does not prepare their own food. They depend on autotrophs for their nutrition. They derive the nutrition from the host and are used to construct the proteins for their body. Autotrophs have an important pigment called chlorophyll, which enables them to capture the energy of sunlight during photosynthesis, whereas heterotrophs do not. Without this pigment, photosynthesis could not occur.
