Question

Out of atoms and molecules, which can exist independently? Why?

Open in App
Solution

  • Most element atoms lack an octet and strive to achieve a noble gas configuration.
  • This is why they react and make bonds, and they cannot exist alone.
  • Whereas molecules are groups of atoms that have formed bonds.
  • For example, Oxygen is an atom but it can not be represented as an atom rather it will form a covalent bond with another oxygen atom and form a molecule.
