Antacid:-

The substances which neutralize the excessive acid produced by the stomach without any side effects are called antacids.

Out of Na2CO3 and NaHCO3, Sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO3) can be used as an antacid because:-

  1. Na2CO3 is more alkaline than NaHCO3 and can burn the throat if swallowed.
  2. While NaHCO3 being mildly basic does not harm.

Therefore, only NaHCO3 should be used as an antacid.
