Question

Out of two 0.1 molal solutions of glucose and of potassium chloride, which one will have a higher boiling point and why?

Open in App
Solution

Given that the concentration of both the solution (potassium chloride and glucose) is same than 0.1 molal solutions of potassium chloride will have a greater boiling point elevation than glucose solution as it depends on the number of ions present in solution. Since NaCl is an ionic compound it will produce 2 ions in the solution while glucose is a covalent compound and it will remain as such.
