Question

Overall, we cannot say that democracy is a guarantee of economic development. But we can expect democracy not to lag behind dictatorships in this respect. But in actual life, democracies do not appear to be very successful in reducing economic inequalities. The disparities between the rich and the poor go on increasing.
Should the gains of economic growth be evenly distributed? How can the poor get a voice for a better share in country’s resources? Analyse the aforesaid questions in light of the theme expressed in the cartoon.

Solution

Dear Student,
Yes, the gains of economic growth should be distribute equally among the citizens so as to make an economically even society. Also this would be as per economic justice i.e, the basic cause of democracy.

The poor can get a voice for a better share in country’s resources only when the poor people is given representation and chance to participate in decision making.
