In the follicular phase, the primary follicle is converted into the Graaffian follicle and endometrium of the uterus gets proliferated under the influence of increasing LH and FSH level. Both LH and FSH attains its peak level in the middle of the cycle.

In the ovulation phase, there is rapid secretion of the maximum amount of LH on 14${}^{th}$ day of menstrual cycle and known as "LH surge". LH surge is responsible for the rupture of the Graafian follicle and release of the ovum (ovulation).
