Solution

Menstrual cycle:

The menstrual cycle is a reproductive cycle that occurs in female primates. There are four stages to the menstrual cycle:

  1. Menstrual phase: It lasts from the 1st to the 4th day of the cycle. It happens when there is no fertilization. The endometrium of the uterus is sloughed off at this phase, resulting in bleeding.
  2. Follicular phase: The uterus enters the proliferative phase when the ovary is in this phase. This occurs between the 5th and 13th days of the cycle. In a single cycle, only one follicle develops. The uterus also experiences proliferation in response to the alterations in the ovary. The uterus is repaired by endometrial glands that are activated by estrogen.
  3. Ovulatory phase: Ovulation occurs during this phase. It usually happens on the 14th day. The rupture of Graafian follicles releases the ovum.
  4. Luteal phase: It corresponds to the uterine secretory phase. It occurs between the 15th and 28th day of the cycle.

Final answer: Ovulation occurs around the 14th day of the menstrual cycle.
