Question

1 A vessel contains oil having density 0.8g/cm(cube) over mercury density 13.6 g/cm(cube) a homegeneous sphere floats with half its volume immersed in mercury and other half its volume in mercury and other half in oil then find the density of the sphere .?

Solution

We can simply apply the equation:Weight of the sphere = Buoyant force experienced by itvolume of sphere *Density = weight of the liquid displaced by it..V* ρ = (V/2)(0.8) + (13.6)(V/2) ρ=0.8/2 + 13.6/2ρ=0.4+6.8= 7.2gm/cm3
