Question

1. calculate the percentage composition in terms of mass of a solution obtained by mixing 300 g of 25%and 400g of 40% solution by mass.

Open in App
Solution

Let us suppose that solution A contains 25% of solute X and solution B contain 40% of solute X. The two solutions are mixed together to form a solution C.

The total mass of the solution = 300 g (Solution A) + 400 g (solution B) = 700 g

Mass of solute X in solution A = 25% of 300g = (25x300) / 100 = 75 g

Mass of solute X in Solution B = 40% of 400g = (40x400) / 100 = 160 g

Total mass of solute in Solution C = 75 g + 160 g = 235 g

Mass % of solution C = (235 / 700) x 100 = 33.6 %
