Element : An element is a substance which is made up of similar types of atoms and can not be further divided into any constituent particle by any chemical or physical process.

Ex: Iron (Fe) is made up of similar types of Fe -atoms.

A total of 118 elements are known by now in which 98 elements are naturally occurring and rest have been either synthesized artificially or by radioactivity.

Out of all the elements, 94 are metals ,17 are nonmetals and 7 are metalloids according to modern periodic table.
