An electrode is an electrical conductor. Each electrode may acquire charge depending on the direction of current through the cell.The anode is defined as the electrode at which electrons leave the cell and oxidation occurs, and the cathode as the electrode at which electrons enter the cell and reduction occurs.

An electrostatic potential which is lower than that of the ground,is called negative potential.
