In Amoeba, metabolism of fats and carbohydrates produces carbon dioxide, whereas metabolism of proteins produces ammonia. Amoeba excretes nitrogenous wastes in the form of ammonia. As no special organelles are present for excretion, ammonia is excreted by diffusion from the general body surface in the surrounding water. Some amount of ammonia enters into the contractile vacuole from the cytoplasm and discharged outside.
