Mendel’s Law of Segregation is called as Law of purity of gametes. It tells us that there is no blending or mixing of characters during any cross at first filial generation (F1). While only one character is expressed due to law of dominance but that does not means that other character (recessive) is lost. It remains as it is and will be expressed in next generation.
In otherwords, it may be stated as the two alleles of a pair segregate or separate during gamete formation such that a gamete receives only one of the two factors. In homozygous parents, all gametes produced are similar; while in heterozygous parents, two kinds of gametes are produced in equal proportions.
