1-An object's weight means it's actual weight which is defined as the downward force exerted upon it by the earth's gravity. But apparent weight differ from the actual weight .It is the upward force or reaction force typically transmitted through the ground, that opposes gravity and prevents a supported object from falling.

When lift is accelerating upwards:

Here,net upward force on the man F=ma

and also F=Reaction force( R)-actual weight( W= mg)

So,R=F+mg=ma+mg=m(a+g)

Hence apparent weight becomes more than the actual weight.

When lift is accelerating downwards:

R=mg-ma=m(g-a)

Hence apparent weight becomes less than the actual weight.
