1) What is the main cause of floods in rivers ?
2) How is our atmosphere different from the atmosphere on Venus And Mars ?
3) How does smog form ?
4) List any 3 human activities that you think will lead to :
a) Air Pollution b) an increase in carbon dioxide content in air .
1. The main cause of flood in rivers is the variable amount and time of precipitation (rain, snow, drizzle etc.) over an area which increases the level of the river during rainy seasons considerably and causes floods in nearby areas.
2. Unlike Earth, the atmosphere of Mars and Venus contain 95-97% carbon dioxide and absence of water.
Also, atmosphere of Mars is too light and temperature is too low accompanied with solar winds making it unsuitable for survival. The green house effect at Venus is very high with thick clouds of sulphur dioxide and acid rain.
3. Smog is combination of fog and smoke formed usually during winter mornings as a result of air pollutants which react in the atmosphere with sunlight.
4. Air pollution is caused by burning of waste material, vehicular emissions, industrial emissions into the atmosphere.
An increase in carbon dioxide in air is due to deforestation, burning of fossil fuels , industrial emissions etc.
