1)Why is it important to make small check dams across the flooded gullies?

Check dam is a temporary or permanent dam constructed across a drainage ditch, swale to prevent erosion, to settle sediments and pollutants etc.
Water speed can be slowed down which prevents unwanted gully formation during flood. These check dams prevents the nearby habitat from flood and its loss. It also reduces the salinity of groundwater.
