Why is combination of politics and social divisions considered very dangerousand explosive ? Explain with suitable examples.

If politics happen to blend with social divisions based on caste, religion, language and culture then there is every possibility of conflict and violence which may lead to the disintegration of the nation.So,social divisions should not be made the ground to compete in politics.When political parties start competing elections on the grounds of social divisions then these social divisions converts into political divisions leading to conflict and disintegration.

There are many countries where combination of politics and social divisions have created disaster.Northern Ireland has suffered from ethnic and political conflict for a long time.The two major sects of Christianity, that is, Catholics and Protestants who resided here demanded division of the nation.

The Catholics who represented the Nationalist Party wanted to merge with the Republic of Ireland as it is a predominantly a Catholic country whereas the Protestants who represented the Unionist Party want to remain in U.K as it is predominantly Protestant.
Many lost their lives in this tussle between the two political parties which ended with a peace agreement signed between the U.K government and the Nationalists.

Even in Yugoslavia also political competition along religious and ethnic lines lead to the disintegration of the nation.
