Lead acetate is a poisonous compound with molecular formula of Pb(CH3COO)2, which is also known as salt of Saturn and use in cosmetic products. The main use of lead nitrate is in the detection of H2S gas. This gas reacts with lead acetate on the moistened filter paper to yield a black precipitate of lead sulphide.

The balanced equation for the above reaction is as follow:

Pb(CH3COO)2 +H2S → PbS + 2 CH3COOH
