Question

5 ohms and 100 ohms resistance are connected with the battery of 2.4 volts.if a voltmeter of 100 ohms is connected across 100 ohms resistor, what will be the reading of the voltmeter ?

Open in App
Solution

the voltage read by the each resistor would be different

such that

voltage across 50 ohms resistor will be (1/3) x 2.4 volts = 0.8 volts

and

voltage across 100 ohms resistor will be (2/3) x 2.4 volts = 1.6 volts

now, of the voltmeter of 100 ohms is connected

voltage across 50 ohms resistor will be (1/5) x 2.4 volts = 0.48 volts

the reading of the voltmeter (of 100 ohms) + 100 ohms resistor would be (4/5) x 2.4 volts = 1.92 volts
