Question

A 700 g dry fruit pack costs Rs 72. It contains some cashew kernel and the rest as dry grapes. If cashew kernel cost Rs 96 per kg and dry grapes cost Rs 112 per kg, what were the quantities of the two dry fruits, cashew and grapes separately?

Solution

Answer :
Given :
Cashew kernel cost = Rs . 96 per kg
So,
Cashew kernel cost = Rs . 961000 = 0.096 per gm
And
Cost of dry grapes = Rs . 112 per kg
So,
Cost of dry grapes = Rs . 1121000 = 0.112 per gm

Let Cashew kernel weight in dry fruit pack = x gm
And
Dry grapes weight in dry fruit pack = y gm

So, According to first condition we get

x + y = 700 ---------------- ( 1 )

And for cost , we get our equation as :

0.096x + 0.112y = 72 ----------------- ( 2 )

Now we multiply by 0.112 in equation 1 and get

0.112x + 0.112y = 78.4 ------------------ ( 3 )

Now we subtract equation 2 from equation 3 and get

0.016x = 6.4

x = 400 Substitute that value in equation 1 we get

400 + y = 700

y = 300

So,
Quantities of both dry fruits , is
Cashew kernel = 400 gm
And
Dry grapes = 300 gm ( Ans )
