Question

A ball is released from a certain height which loses 50% of its K.E. on striking the ground. It will attain a height againA) one fourth the initial heightB) half the initial heightC) three fourth initial height

Open in App
Solution

Let h be the height from which the ball has been dropped.

Therefore, the kinetic energy of the ball when it strikes the ground is mgh.

Loss in kinetic energy = 50% of mgh = 0.5mgh

Therefore, the ball will rise to 0.5h or half its initial height.
