Question

A bulb is connected to an inductor in a circuit. Another circuit contains an inductor connected to some power supply. By mutual inductance the bulb glows. What will happen to the intensity or brightness of the bulb when a metal say Copper is placed between the 2 inductors.

Solution

Dear Student!!

The bulb will glow with less intensity when a copper is placed between the two inductors. When copper sheet is introduce between the two coils, eddy current will be set up in the sheet. This eddy current reduced the magnetic flux linked with the secondary coil as it opposes the change in the magnetic flux. Hence, the induced e.m.f will get reduced in the secondary coil.
