Question

a car travelling at 60 km/hr overtakes another car travelling at 42 km/hr. assuming each car to be 5.0 m long. Find the time taken during the overtake.

Open in App
Solution

As the second car overtakes teh first one the total distance travelled by the second car will be 5m + 5m = 10m.

Now, let the time taken to overtake the car be t seconds

Therefore,

distance travelled by seconds car in time t = distance travelled by first car in t + total overtaking distance, so

60t=42t+0.01

or

t=1/1800hr or 2s

Therefore time required to overtake the car is 2 seconds.
