Question

A charge of 2 coulomb moves between 2 plates maintained at potential difference of 2 volt .

What is the energy acquire by the charge ?

Solution

The work done by the electric field in between the plates in moving the charge is given by the product of potential difference between the plates and the charge in coulomb.

Therefore, W = qV = 2 × 2 = 4 J

This work done is stored in the charge as its kinetic energy. So, the energy acquired by the charge is 4 J.
