A compound A is used in fire extinguisher as an ant acid and its small amount is also used in bakery items.Identify the substance and give reasons for above mentioned uses of compound A?

The compound A is baking soda
Chemical formula- NaHCO3
Chemical name- Sodium bicarbonate.

a) Used in fire extinguisher- It is used in dry powder fire extinguishers as it gives off carbon dioxide which inhibit oxygen to support fire.
NaHCO3 Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2

​b) Used as antacid- Sodium bicarbonate is salt of strong base and weak acid, so it is alkaline in nature. It is mixed with water and taken as antacid.

c) Used in bakery items- It is used as leavening agent in bakery items. It reacts with acidic components in batters, releasing carbon dioxide. This causes expansion of the batter and forms the characteristics texture in cakes, breads and other baked food items.
