A cotton thread can not support a heavy object, but a metal wire can, why? also give name to its strenght?

Ductility is the property of the metal wire due to which they can be stretched.But cotton thread does not have such property,they can break easily.So when we hang heavy object to thread ,it breaks up but wire stretched due its property of ductility and thus supports heavy object.
