Question

a dog of mass 25kg running after a cat of mass 4kg possesses the same kinetic energy as that of cat .calculate the ratio of velocities of the two?

Open in App
Solution

Let ‘v’ be the velocity of the cat. So, the kinetic energy of the cat is,

KEcat = ½ × 25 × v2

Let ‘u’ be the velocity of the mouse. So, the kinetic energy of the mouse is,

KEmouse = ½ × 4 × u2

Since, the KEs are same. Therefore,

½ × 25 × v2 = ½ × 4 × u2

=> 5v = 2u

=> u : v = 5 : 2

=> velocity of mouse : velocity of cat = 5 : 2
